Meet Reverend Mary
I have been blessed with a great life, work I love, and am surrounded by a very loving community here at St. Michael's. As the spiritual leader of this congregation, I found a purpose in life that is fulfilling and challenging. When you get to know me, you will find that I am very straight forward. You get what you see and I say what I mean (but not meanly of course!) I love to share my house in my ministry, it is definitely a wonderful creative outlet for me. I just recently got into gardening and find I love it. My daughter Savannah and I are redoing our garden so that most of our new plants are fruit/vegetable producing. We have lots of tomatoes this time of year! I love to entertain, decorate, and cook. I have had the privilege to travel all over the world. I have been on all seven continents including an amazing trip to Antarctica. Who knew that watching penguins in freezing temperatures for two hours could bring delight and wonder! I spent a lot of time in Tuscany and love it. London is one of my favorite cities in the world. I grew up in a big family (seven siblings) in Detroit. You guessed it! I was raised Roman Catholic.
I lived in Sydney, Australia for a year, which was a great experience in learning how nuanced cultures can be. I lived in the Bay Area most of my adult life but lived on the East coast and in Minnesota as well. I moved to Sacramento a little over two years to accept the rector position and I love it here.
I have six children, two step-sons, both are married - Jim and Heather, Bill and Jess who have two darling daughters, Josie and Lilly. Jacqueline is my 24 year old daughter who lives in London, England and is studying Philosophy. Casey is my 22 year old son who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Savannah is 22 and lives with me. Thank God, I would be so lonely otherwise, right? Madeline is 20 and lives in Seattle Washington. I was an at home mom for years and loved every minute of it. I went back to school when my youngest was in first grade. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors in Psychology. Four years later, I received my Masters of Divinity from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley. I am a doctoral candidate ( Doctorate of Ministry from Virginia Theological Seminary). Learning is a lifelong adventure for me.
I have an amazing amount of energy and love to be busy. However, I don't like getting up in the morning. I try my very best to live a God centered life. I am a proud Episcopalian and love that our church welcomes all people and encourages questions and struggles. I am open minded and curious about most things. I am interested in making the world a better place. Christian formation through study and outreach is my passion. If I don't know you yet, I want to get to know you, I promise!
